According to The Spruce, regular cleaning is key to managing common allergens around the home, including dust mites, mould and pollen.

We’ve scoured the internet and compiled the following cleaning tips for allergen sufferers:

Choosing a vacuum with a high HEPA filter

Choosing a vacuum with a high HEPA filter is widely recommended for families sensitive to allergens as they help to trap high proportions of the dirt and allergens from the vacuum's airstream.

Use a bagged vacuum cleaner

Using a bagged vacuum cleaner can help to reduce dirt and allergens being recirculated into the air on emptying – known as the ‘dust plume’ - versus a cyclonic vacuum cleaner

The Vacmaster Captura includes a hands-free bag drop feature meaning that you no longer even need to touch the bag when you’re emptying the vacuum cleaner.

Wear a mask and gloves

Some people find that wearing protective clothing like a disposable mask and gloves whilst cleaning and dusting can help them to reduce contact with common household allergens.

Use a damp cloth when cleaning counter surfaces

Using a damp cloth to clean and dust counter surfaces can help to trap allergens and dust particles on the cloth instead of brushing them into the air. But always follow surface cleaning instructions to prevent unnecessary damage.

Stick to a cleaning schedule

If you (or members of your household!) are prone to forgetting about cleaning, try to create a regular cleaning schedule. That way, you can share the burden and allocate tasks which may flare up your symptoms to others.

The Vacmaster AllergenPro™ range of vacuum cleaners has been specifically designed for families sensitive to allergens and pet owners.

Featuring our AllergenPro™ Dust Management System and HEPA 13 filter, they capture 99.9% of microscopic dust collected – including pollen, mould and bacteria - according to industry standard test EN 60312-01 at 0.3 to 10 microns.
